About Me

Derick Davies, a Liberian American visual artist from West Oakland, California who graduated from Oakland School For The Arts with the class of 2025. Derick also played varsity basketball at Mcclymonds High School which helped craft his hardworking mentality. He started making art at 4 years old and was heavily inspired by cartoons, comics, class assignments, toys and movies, and that helped create his love to make his own art. After he enrolled at OSA in 6th grade his art skills expanded for the better. Throughout the years he’s been taught by some of the best visual art teachers in the world. He's been introduced to so many materials and techniques while his art making ability has continued to grow. He loves working with acrylic & oil paint and as his knowledge of the art game has grown he’s been able to grow his status by creating bodies of original art, making various commissions, doing multiple group exhibits in the Bay and using his social media to get his art out there. His art is about self reflection, universal story telling, exploration of culture, emotion and urban life. This bounces from experiences living in Oakland & San Francisco, scenes he witnesses, being Liberian American & the life he lives in this modern day of creativity. Derick now attends California College Of The Arts on a full scholarship for painting and drawing. He looks to continue on his art journey of growing more skills, making more art and becoming a known visual artist out of Oakland and the Bay.
