Derick Davies, a Liberian American visual artist from Oakland, California who graduated from Oakland School For The Arts. Derick Davies also played varsity basketball at Mcclymonds High School which helped craft his hardworking mentality. He started making art in kindergarten and was heavily inspired by cartoons, books, and movies and that helped create his love to make his own art. After he enrolled at OSA in middle school his art skills vastly expanded for the better. Throughout the years he’s been taught by some of the best visual art teachers in the world. He was introduced to so many materials and techniques and his ability to make art has grown as a whole. He loves working with acrylic paint and as his knowledge of the art game has grown he’s been able to grow his status by selling art, making various commissions for people in the Bay Area, doing multiple exhibits in the Bay and using his social media to get his art out there. His art is very self reflective, as he loves to tell stories in his paintings from his life and mind. Derick also loves to express emotion and. creativity in his work. He focuses on a lot of portraiture and figurative paintings. Derick now attends California College Of The Arts on a full scholarship for painting and drawing. As he continues on his art journey he looks forward to growing many more skills, making art for more people and becoming a known visual artist out of Oakland and the Bay.
